Whanala Dhiyunguny Bala Galiwin’ku? (Where are you today Galiwin’ku?) shares Yolngu people’s stories related to their recovery from Cyclones Lam and Nathan which struck Elcho Island (NE Arnhemland, NT) in 2015.
The film describes difficulties with preparing for and recovering from the cyclones, exacerbated by local factors including housing shortages and maintenance, lack of employment and the loss of local governance and decision making through the Intervention and subsequent Stronger Futures federal approaches.
Produced in 2016 with Australian Red Cross, funded by NAB and Westpac Bank
Story Lounge films
Interviews on the street, cooking shows, chats in public spaces, personal histories, they’re all part of the Story Lounge, a movable space for fleeting or deeper conversations about culture, space and life.
We love sharing stories through short films.
The clips featured below were made by Steph Vajda during a 2 year role with Creative Tracks, a program delivered by Human Ventures. Music videos were created with young participants in Hopevale, Cherbourg, Woorabinda , Palm Island and Logan (Qld, Australia).
These are films made to promote a campaign and projects I’ve been involved in or supported.
