Karen Batten operates her own agency, Create Together With Karen Batten, and collaborates with FC on a range of projects.
She blends visual art, print and web design using a participatory approach with groups and individuals. This process happens by means of dialogue, workshops and training to facilitate concept creation through to the final product.
Karen previously worked for seven years as a full-time corporate graphic designer. In 2002, Karen started working as a freelance artsworker and designer who delivers creative services using a participant driven approach. In Karen’s practice, the process used is equally as important as the outcome. Karen has experience working with individuals, organisations and businesses of diverse cultural backgrounds, genders, age, socio-economic status and abilities.
Karen is committed to personal and professional skill development through courses, listening and seeking information. Karen has completed a Diploma in Graphic Design in 1996 and Bachelor in Fine Arts in 2006. In 2012, Karen attended the Portland Open Engagement Conference and Meta Meta Intercultural Open Space.
Karen’s work and art practice blends a passion for social justice and self-expression with a mix of digital and visual arts. Karen’s practice thrives on collaborations with friends and community.
Karen is based on Turrbal and Jagera Country, in Highgate Hill, Brisbane, and works throughout Brisbane and Australia.
